New Delhi — The Indian women’s kabaddi team created history on Monday by winning the 2025 Kabaddi World Cup, defeating Chinese Taipei 35–28 in a thrilling final. With this victory, India lifted the prestigious trophy for the second consecutive time, reaffirming their dominance on the global kabaddi stage.
PM Modi, Home Minister Shah Praise Historic Triumph
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team on their remarkable achievement, posting on X:
“Congratulations to our Indian women’s kabaddi team for making the nation proud by winning the 2025 Kabaddi World Cup! Their grit, skill and dedication are truly inspiring and will motivate countless youngsters.”
Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his wishes, saying he was “immensely proud” of the team’s historic performance and called the victory a reflection of India’s unmatched sporting talent.
India’s Unbeaten Dominance Throughout the Tournament
A total of 11 nations competed in the World Cup, but India remained undefeated from start to finish. In the semifinals, India overpowered a strong Iranian side 33–21, while Chinese Taipei beat hosts Bangladesh to reach the final.
Former India captain Ajay Thakur hailed the victory as a clear sign of the rising stature and global popularity of women’s kabaddi. He noted that the triumph highlights the tremendous progress the sport has made in recent years.
Earlier this year, the Indian team had also clinched the Asian Championship (March 2025), making this their second major international title of the year.

Teamwork, Confidence, and Fitness: The Winning Formula
Former Indian player Manpreet Singh applauded the squad for showcasing exemplary teamwork and confidence. “Winning a World Cup is incredibly challenging. The players and support staff demonstrated outstanding belief and unity,” he said.
India’s campaign saw them defeating Thailand, Bangladesh, Germany, and Uganda in the group stage before overpowering Iran in the semifinal.
A Golden Era for Indian Women’s Kabaddi
With back-to-back World Cup victories, the Indian women’s team has cemented its position as the true powerhouse of world kabaddi. Their superior strategy, fitness, and flawless coordination have once again placed India at the pinnacle of the sport.
Nationwide Celebrations and Political Leaders Laud the Team
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also congratulated the champions, writing:
“Congratulations to the Indian women’s kabaddi team for bringing the World Cup home. Your patience, discipline, and courage embody the spirit of India. The nation salutes you. Jai Hind.”
